I am looking to replace these river stones with something more sturdy underfoot, as well as reducing weeds. I am thinking some sand and then Tuscan path on top. Any alternative suggestions?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @katiej9. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about filling the space between pebbles.
Reducing the size of the pebbles could help, but they may still get displaced over time. You might consider lifting the pavers and pebbles, laying a weed mat, then reinstalling the pavers and filling the gaps with a mortar mix. While the mortar is still wet, press your chosen pebbles into it and smooth them with a trowel. This will help lock them in place while still maintaining a natural look.
Although the weed wat will prevent weeds from growing up from the soil beneath, they are very tenacious and will germinate in the pebbles themselves. You can periodically spray the area with path weeder to kill off emerged weeds and prevent them from growing for up to twelve months.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Katie,
I've just put in some smaller pebbles Tuscan Path 4-6mm Natural Mixed between pavers. First adding a little more mortar mix into the space (as we originally had larger stones in between) to use less of the smaller pebbles - then laying them in after the mortar was dry we've tried out a newly found product Landscape Lock (which we're calling Rock Lock!) and so far we're loving it.
I don't have a cleaned and complete photo as yet, should be all done tomorrow and I'll update again. But the Landscape Lock is an absolute blessing, we've been walking over the pathway each day this week as we've completed parts and have had next to no movement in the pebbles, worth looking into if you do like the pebble/stone look but not the movement.
Good luck,
Chantel

Hi Chantel (@ourmashedfamily),
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is so wonderful to have you join us.

Your pavers look great and the fact you won't have to keep brushing the stones back into place must be a great relief.
Thank you for sharing your project and your experience with Landscape Lock.
