How to fix dropped garden gate?

Hello gang! Long time lurker, first time poster...

We had our driveway concreted, and there was a hiccup with the new ground level and the gate. It was fixed, and has worked for about a year, but seems like the gate has drooped a bit, and it now doesn't glide through the latch.

I've tried to lookup the gate brand (Downee)

but can't find any instructions. To me it seems like the top right hinge needs to be tightened, so the bottom left is raised slightly. Does that seem right? If so, how do I go about doing that?

Re: garden gate help!

Hello @JosephineWhy

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your garden gate.

I suspect that your hinges have loosened up and is causing the gate to tilt to one side. In order to loosen the hex head screws, you'll need to use a Hex Socket Set possibly a 10mm head, but it would be best to test it on the hex head screw to make sure you have a firm fit. Turn the screws anti clockwise to loosen them up and tilt the door back to its original position, use a timber wedge to hold it in place and re-tighten the screws to hold the hinge back in place. If the latch still does not glide through, you'll need to re-adjust the gate one more time.

My best advice is to spray the hinges with WD-40 175g Multi-Use Smart Straw to keep it nice and lubricated.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: garden gate help!

Hi Eric, thank you so much for you quick reply!!

We tried to tighten "something" on the underside of the hinge...I'm worried it's been rounded though 😭

Any other suggestions? I also looked for a replacement hinge and couldn't find one - in a bit of a pickle 😬

Re: garden gate help!

Hello @JosephineWhy

If you feel that the hinges need replacing, I suggest looking at the TruClose® Self-Closing Pool Gate Safety Hinges. These are very strong hinges as they are rated to operate near swimming pool areas and can carry a weight of 30 kg. The thing you tried to tighten up could possibly be the gate return spring, it controls how fast the gate should swing back. If set incorrectly it could end up slowing the door down when it swings back and it can also cause the gate return latch issue.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
