How to fix front yard drainage?

Hello everyone,

I recently did a DIY job with installing footpath and garden bed in the front yard. However due to my limited experience I think I did not consider the drainage properly as the water pools on the pathway even when I water the garden. To improve I have been considering:

1. Dig trench and install agi pipe 1 meter away from the porch and starting from the garden bed all the way to the pit

2. Install another pit near the garden bed and connect it to the existing pit

Appreciate any tips and suggestions!

I think I see what you mean the water runs to the tiled porch?

If this is true run an 65mm Ag line back to your pit 300mm out from the porch line on a downward slope 1:20 or 1:10 as a guide no need for 2nd pit unless you get 100mm of rain down fall a day.

If you use a 65mm Ag line with gravel under it and over it this will handle lots of water no need for 100mm Ag I would use socked version for longer life less blockages.

Run this Ag line in all the water build up places you need, Connect Ag branches lines to each other at need all back to the one Ag line into the pit.

It is neater to join branch lines into other AG lines under ground so you don't need multiple holes into your pit.

It sounds like you’re on the right track with considering drainage improvements. The key to addressing drainage issues is ensuring that the water can be captured from low spots and directed away from the area. Creating a grade in the pipework is important to ensure that water flows toward the stormwater system.

If you can install a single pit that will adequately capture water from the pathway, that could be the simplest solution. Make sure the pipe from the garden bed and footpath has the correct slope to allow water to flow properly toward the pit. If necessary, you could also add an agi pipe to help drain excess water from the garden bed itself.

If you’re not confident about the installation, I would suggest consulting a professional for advice on the best approach to achieve optimal drainage. Remember they will be needed to connect the drainage to your stormwater.
