How to fix leaking gutter seam?

Hi  - the seam on my gutter  has separated. Seeking advice on best way to repair  My thought was to pull away the old sealant and then rivet on a small tin plate joiner and then re-sealing ?  Is there a pre made joiner that I could use ?  Thanks

Re: How to fix leaking gutter seam?

Hi @Damian08,

One section of your gutter should normally slip inside the other, but from the photo, it doesn’t seem like there’s much, if any, overlap, which may have caused the seam to separate over time. Typically, gutter sections are joined by sliding one inside the other, drilling holes, and using pop rivets to lock them together. While there are plastic gutter joiners available, there isn’t really anything designed for Colorbond gutters like yours. The plastic joiner might not have the correct profile. There are gutter brackets that might be of use, but they are typically for supporting the gutter, not joining it.

You’re on the right track with removing the old sealant rather than just patching over it. Once the sections are properly aligned and secured, resealing with a good-quality silicone will create a much more solid and long-lasting joint than relying on silicone alone.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
