How to fix metal sheet coming off concrete wall?

Hi all,

I need your advice on refixing the metal sheet back to the concrete wall. There were 2 nails holding the metal sheet to the wall. However, the remaining nail is coming off which caused the metal sheet to detach from the wall.

I have bought the Selleys' Flexi Seal but unsure the type of nails to hold the sheet onto the wall.

Hi @andre999

The simplest way to fix the sheeting coming off is to use a Building Polyurethane sealant/glue and 30mm longer concrete nails for support. Using the same nails holes so no extra holes needed, (too many holes even drilled holes will swiss cheese the cement and bricks under it causing the whole section to fail and crumble.) The link I added refers you to a grey version of this product, so you won't need to paint it to match your existing metal colour

So clean out any loose material with a brush, Apply the Sealent all along the inside of the metal thats pulling away from the wall (use a thin stick or something to wipe the sealant to wet the wall surface and metal surface to give a 100% bonding.) . and then use the longer 30mm concrete nails and hammer the nails gently in (firm short taps) this will squish the sealant against the wall, so it also squishes out the edges. Just smooth this down even with a disposable cloth without removing the bead in the gap as this will add water tightness.

The sealant will be stronger than the nails as it has a greater surface area grip once dry. So even it you used no nails and place a timber prop against the metal flap to close it un till it was set (24 hours) this will be agood strong waterproof repair

I would also wipe some sealant of the nail shaft and under the head to add water sealant there.

While you're up there use the remaining Sealant on the gaps around the higher visable gaps you can see above the 2nd layer of higher of metal repair to head off any future water leaks. So, seal those gaps.

Looks like the nails that have been fired through and into the brickwork behind have worked loose. Time happens but should be easy to fix.

If you peel back the coping strip can you see how big the hole has become? Id remove any loose brickwork you can. Possibly the easiest way to repair would be to use some Ramset 7 x 35mm Green Wall Plugs - 25 Pack (only need two tho)

If the hole is still in a resonable state, drill through the existing hole in the coping with a hammer drill. Then insert the green rawl plug and screw into it to hold that coping against the wall. I would use this first between wall and coping Selleys 415g Brick And Concrete Sealant tho instead of the one you have (unless it says you can use on brickwork)

Thank you @Dave-1 for your reply with your suggestion. I will investigate the state of the hole. If I were to drill through, what type of screw should I use ?

I have Selley Polyurethane sealant which works with bricks/concrete.

I would use something along the lines of Zenith 10G x 40mm Gold Passivated Countersunk Head Timber Screws - 20 Pack as you are just holding it in place. If the head of the screw is too small for the existing hole then slip a small washer over the screw before screwing it in 🙂 You could use any screw really, main thing I was after was a 40mm long one and something that would fit in the rawl plug.
