How to fix the downpipe and clay inlet?

Hi,

I am looking for advice how to address a few issues in this 1970s unit:

- downpipe going into the clay inlet where the clay inlet is cracked and falling apart

- downpipe going into the clay inlet but not aligned

Hi @AKB,

The best long-term solution is to have a plumber come out and replace the old earthenware pipes with modern ones. Unfortunately, this is not something you can do yourself, as it is plumbing work that would require a licence.

I would suggest using a service such as HiPages to search for plumbers in your area to assist.

Hello @JacobZ, Thank you for your kind reply.

My friend and I addressed the issue with the smaller downpipe by replacing a piece. I attached the photo below.

As for the broken clay pots, I noticed there are some PVC replacement available, but no doubt a bit of digging will be required.

As @JacobZ informed DIY'ers are not allowed to tamper with drainage stuff 😕

While you are thinking about that and maybe have to budget for a plumber I suggest covering the whole lot with folded chicken wire pegged down with tent pegs or you might have visitors - rats

You could also poke something in there to nudge it over.
