How to fix wobbly brick pillar?

I have a brick and thatch fence where one of the brick pillars is wobbling and rocking, seemingly at just one course in the pillar (see photo). Can I repair this without having to dismantle and relay the wall?

As and aside, if I wanted to replace the thatch with slats, does anyone have any product recommendations for DIY?

If the pillar is rocking at a single course near the base and stands around 1.8m tall, that definitely raises some safety concerns, especially if it's supporting fencing material like thatch. When the movement is isolated to a single cracked mortar joint, the most reliable long-term repair would usually involve dismantling the top section and re-bedding it on fresh mortar. That said, I understand that’s a big job, and not something everyone wants to take on.

There may be professional options available that involve injecting structural epoxy or polyurethane adhesives into the failed joint to bond and stabilise it without dismantling the pillar. These products are typically used in structural crack repair and could potentially be adapted to this scenario, but they’re not really designed for DIY use and would usually be handled by a specialist. It’s definitely worth having a bricklayer or builder assess it in person—they might be able to recommend a safe and cost-effective solution that avoids full demolition.

As for replacing the thatch with slats, there are quite a few DIY-friendly screening slat systems you can look into, depending on the look you’re after. For a timber look, castellated panels from Ekodeck are popular, as they’re low-maintenance and easy to install.
