How to hang net for outdoor entertainment area?

Hello,

I bought this net to keep out mosquitos from our undercover outdoor area. It has super sticky glue on it but it peeled off the next day. I think it's a cement rendered wall (please correct me if I'm wrong). I tried drilling screws on the top but it's not going in. I also tried using a nail but it just bent (was thin but wasn't able to get through at all). I'm thinking there's a heavy iron bar behind it to hold up the balcony above.

Anyone have any ideas on how I can hang the net?

Re: How to hang net

Hi @Kathy88,

Thank you for your question.

There's a good chance there is a steel beam across the far outside edge of the balcony, so my suggestion is to use these Everhang 25mm Toggle Cup Hooks around 100mm back from the outside edge.

As they are designed for use on sheet products with cavities behind them, you can use a stud finder to ensure there is no steel behind the sheet.

If the stud finder shows there is no cavity, this means that it is solid concrete, in which case you'll have to use a rotary hammer drill to drill pilot holes so you can install some Macsim 8 x 40mm Galvanised Masonbolt Hooks

You'll want to use a hook every 600mm or so to ensure the net is well supported.

Let me know what you think, and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Jacob

Re: How to hang net

Hey, would I be able to use liquid glue to glue rod brackets to the wall or maybe a piece of wood and then add the brackets or hook to that?

If yes, do you have a recommendation for which liquid glue can be used on a cement rendered wall that is weather resistant?

Re: How to hang net

Hello @Kathy88

It appears that you are living in an apartment complex, would you happen to know if there is a body corporate managing the building? If there is, adding anything to the outside of your apartment will require you to ask permission. Just to be on the safe side, I propose only adding a temporary piece of timber so that should you be required to have it taken off you can easily remove it. I suggest a rope to go over the fence posts of the second-floor fence.

This will allow you to hang the piece of timber over the outdoor area. You can attach your large net onto the hanging piece of timber.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric

Re: How to hang net for outdoor entertainment area?

Hi @Kathy88 ,

Do the curtain rod thing with minimal tampering of the structure to mitigate body corporate issues.

Install those on each side.

Using wall plugs.

Measure up the netting and cut to size two 'curtains', each one will pull across and meet the middle.

You can use Velcro.

to hold them together.

And curtain ropes to keep them tidy.

Later on if they need to be removed all that is left are two small holes that can be made to disappear.

Cheers

Re: How to hang net for outdoor entertainment area?

Thank you! It's a great solution but I'm not able to find a rod big enough for the space. It's 4m and I can't drill anything on the ceiling in thr middle to connect because there's an iron beam behind the wall. Any idea how to get around this?

Hi @Kathy88 ,

I am thinking of recessing the 'curtains' back from the steel beam.

There are 2.0M curtain rods.

Like this one.

Curtain Rod Stirrup Brackets

And we join them in the middle with a short length of wood dowel and center support bracket.
