How to install umbrella on a brick wall?

Will a wall mounted umbrella be ok to put on brick wall around our pool on the far left side or is the fence to low? We have a large umbrella 🌂 in the bottom r/h corner but unless there's no wind can't really use as it tends to blow over and this spring/summer it's been windy nearly every day!

The fence measures. 58in or approx 150cm high and there is a pathway on the other side of the wall, used by fitness enthusiasts and dog walking humans, a grassy shortcut to the street below and not used very much.

I need an easy yet safe, practical shade to relax and read under so any ideas much appreciated.

It's a coincidence that today of all days ..I decide to ask workshop about shade solutions for pool area which requires a photo to explain my query........and it just so happens that it has a done to scale Australian Flag on the bottom.

We only purchased our home 6 mths ago and whilst we wouldn't have used Flag if we were putting it in but it's close to 50 yrs old and if nothing else it's a talking point 😀

So sorry for the delay in my reply.

We only have one wall-mounted umbrella, and it's the Coolaroo 2.7m Charcoal Lindeman Market Wall Mount Umbrella. As you can see, the umbrella sits directly in line with its mounting bracket, so at the most, your umbrella would sit at the height of the wall. I suspect that might be a bit low.

Cantilever umbrellas, which I'm guessing you already have, typically come with holes in the cross-frame foot, allowing you to bolt them down to a solid structure, such as your deck frame. Perhaps you could permanently mount it in your desired location. Also, some of the cross-frame feet work well when four large pavers are placed on them. We also have a couple of weight cantilever bases to suit this cross-design.

You might also consider installing a couple of posts and a shadesail. Alternatively, a Marquee 3 x 3m Dallas Steel Gazebo might work well over your seated area.

Hubby's a pain and holding a hammer is beyond his skill set or aptitude

( he's mine and with plenty of other attributes I can forgive him his complete disinterest in all things DIY and maintenance).........so he hates shade sail and I agree with him there, thinks big fat sand bases ugly if they remain on the deck when you put brolly down to store and not keen on bolting base permanently to deck in case want or need to move it.

My idea is to turn this space into a lusher, more tropical pool and entertaining area by getting some big potted, inexpensive palms 🌴, something tropical that grows quickly...Any suggestions anyone?

I suppose a fabric awning that winds up and down and is permanently attached to the wall that winds up and down is a possibility, but it would have to have a tropical design or black and white stripes etc. Do you think that would be suitable?

The large umbrella in this photo is great but not that easy to use and the first hint of wind must be shut.

So appreciate your helpful ideas

Is there a site or a company that has diagrams of wall mounted umbrellas so I can understand how they open and close to see if it could be suitable for our wall?

Hi @vickilee211,

Have you considered adding a cabana or gazebo to your space? These can provide a more permanent and wind-resistant shade solution while also complementing the tropical feel you're aiming for. You might like to check out @ProjectPete's amazing Poolside timber cabana for inspiration.

I'm not aware of any awnings that attach to a wall and wind up or down. Typically, they extend out or retract, and options with tropical designs may be quite limited. If you're set on an awning, you might need to explore custom options to get the look you’re after.

As for wall-mounted umbrellas, we only stock the Coolaroo 2.7m Charcoal Lindeman Market Wall Mount Umbrella. It folds back neatly against the wall and can be removed during high winds, which might be helpful given the conditions in your area.
