Hi, I have had these hedges since little about 4 years now. They are getting quite tall which is good but they’re not really bushy. I can see their branches and also some parts haven’t connected very well whereas others have.
any tips on how I can best get these to look like clean bushy hedges?
I think they are Muraya Paniculata but not 100% sure. They get the white flowers sometimes but rarely.
Hi @Murlun,
Can I ask what your feeding regime has been like with these plants? Regular feeding with slow-release fertiliser can significantly encourage dense, leafy growth.
It looks like the gaps between plants are in shadow. Plants generally won’t produce many branchlets or leaves in areas that don’t receive adequate light, so it’s quite natural that the hedge isn’t filling in down low or in between the trunks. Now that the tops of the plants have grown taller and are overshadowing those lower sections, it’s unlikely you’ll see much new growth there unless you can increase light access.
Does the front face of the hedge get much sun, or is it mainly light from above? If the latter, that could be contributing to the patchy look as well.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
