Hi, our limestone retaining walls are not in the best condition so looking for any suggestion to restore them or cover them. Would cladding over them be a reasonable option? Thank you!
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @chris123456. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about a limestone wall.
Cladding is definitely an option if you’d like to completely change the look and move away from the more rustic style of the limestone. There are lots of cladding products available that could give the walls a more modern, clean-lined appearance.
However, if you don’t mind the natural look of the limestone and just want to freshen it up, a good clean with an outdoor cleaner and a pressure washer would make a big difference. After cleaning, you could also redo the mortar between the blocks — this would tidy up all the joints and give the wall a much neater, more finished look while still keeping that rustic character. It’s a bit more work, but the end result could be really beautiful without needing to completely cover the stone.
If you're looking to improve the limestone, I recommend having a professional clean it and then reapply the mortar.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
