How to move a garden tap for new irrigation system?

Hi everyone, thanks in advance for your help on this topic.

I have a garden tap coming from the house that I would like to use for some further plumbing work in the backyard. I would like to do a couple of things:

1) Install some pop up sprinklers and drip irrigation in the backyard

2) Removing this tap and moving it to another location in the backyard, 2m away

The existing line is copper and it will run under some pavers and then grass where the sprinklers are. I’d prefer not to have the irrigation running from the tap valve itself, I want it on its own dedicated line with a solenoid or controller. I have a couple of questions:

a) What kind of pipes would you recommend for each job (PVC, copper, pex) or is it a mix?

b) What kind of fittings could I use from the existing copper line, without the need to solder (I’ve seen things like sharkbites?)?

Thanks for sharing your question about your garden tap. I propose using the SmarteX Pex Pipe System, it is a push fit type system which makes it relatively easy to add and extend garden fittings. You can even mount the pipe work on your wall without needing to dig into the soil to extend the water outlet.

It is possible to split the line so that you have a dedicated outlet for the irrigation. In regards to the solenoid, I suggest having a look at the water timers that have timed shut off systems that you might find useful. Some can be linked to your WiFi others controlled with Bluetooth.

I propose drawing your plan on paper so that you can quantify the parts you'll need and the amount of hose you'll be using.

Please note that it might be necessary to engage the services of a registered plumber to complete this work. If in doubt consult your local building authority before you begin.
