Hi. We are putting 2 lines of spaced pavers down (for the car to drive along) and putting pebbles in-between the pavers. What mix of sand/lime/cement/water should I use under the pavers?
btw, we have already made a solid base for the pavers to sit on, we just want to concrete them in so they don't move.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @julie242. It's marvellous to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about bedding pavers.
Since you already have a solid base, what you’re really doing is bedding the pavers so they stay in place. For this purpose, a simple mortar mix works well. A good ratio is roughly 4 parts sand to 1 part cement, mixed with enough water to make a stiff but workable paste. You don’t need lime unless you specifically want extra workability, but it’s optional. If you wish to include lime in your bedding mix, a typical mix would be 4 parts sand : 1 part cement : 0.5 part lime
We also offer pre-mixed mortar, making things even simpler.
Apply the mortar under the pavers so each one sits firmly and level, then use a spirit level to check as you go. A layer of 30-40mm is about right. Once set, you can fill the gaps between the pavers with your chosen pebbles. The mortar will help prevent the pavers from shifting under the weight of vehicles.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
