How to remove a roof tile when all tiles are screwed down?

Hey there,

Please help me to remove a tile from the roof.

I’m trying to install a whirlybird on my roof, but I found that all the tiles are screwed down—not nailed. I need to remove the 3rd tile from the top of the roof, but I’m finding it hard and frustrating. I have attached the screw pic and tile pics.

Thank you

Mac

Re: How to remove a roof tile when all tiles are screwed down?

Hi @Mac4,

When roof tiles are screwed down instead of nailed, it makes removal a bit more challenging—especially when you're trying to get to one that's not right at the top. Typically, the screws aren’t accessible without first removing the tiles above the one you’re targeting. That’s because the overlaps conceal the fixings underneath.

If you absolutely need to remove the third tile from the top and can’t take off the ones above it, your only real option may be to carefully break the tile out. Once the broken tile is out of the way, you should be able to access the screw and cut it flush using a reciprocating saw with a metal blade or a hand-held metal saw. Just be sure to wear the proper safety gear and work carefully to avoid damaging the surrounding tiles.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
