How to remove concrete bleed?

How to remove concrete bleed?

I had some new strips of concrete laid next to my driveway and the concrete has bled onto the driveway. The driveway will be power washed but I don’t think it’ll take the concrete off just the dirt.

What’s the best way to clean off the overflow of concrete now that it’s dry, it’s not that thick.

thank you

Gillian

Re: concrete bleed how to remove

Hello @gillymrd

I suspect that the concreter has designed it this way so that there would be no gap between your old and new concrete. In essence it was given a little bit of an overflow for a solid connection. Removing the overflow might be detrimental to the concrete as water will be able to enter the gap between the new and old and cause it to become unstable. With its current setting water will flow over it as there are no gaps.

If you are keen to remove it, I suggest speaking to your concreter about it and making sure removing the overflow is not detrimental to the entire structure.

Le t me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @Nailbag for their recommendations.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Hi @gillymrd

I agree with @EricL that the concreter has probably deliberately blended in the new with the old. Once you pressure wash the old it will be less apparent as will give it several months to season. I wouldn't be too concerned as it's purely cosmetic. But as Eric suggested, just give the concreter a buzz and ask him.

Re: How to remove concrete bleed?

Good morning @gillymrd

Removing concrete like that is going to be a bit of work, its looks tidy atm, just a different colour. If I was trying to remove the overflow part (id hit up the concreter and just check that its wise to do so) maybe an air rattle gun to chip away at the new stuff. It may mark the old concrete at the same time is all.

I agree with @Nailbag that after a pressure wash the colouring may be closer to each other so mayb wait until you do that and then make a call?

Re: concrete bleed how to remove

Thanks so much to you & @EricL

The concreter did actually pin the strips to the original so it’s pretty secure, he knew we were going to drive over it.
I think though you’re right in that once the rest of the driveway is power washed it won’t be so noticeable.
I’m just a bit fussy.
for @EricL here are some pics of my pond that you previously helped me with.
just after planting (floating) amd this past weekend as the corellas flew in.
it’s been a great success.
cheers to you both

Re: concrete bleed how to remove

Thanks for the update, you've created a beautiful watering hole @gillymrd!

As with the above, I'd have the drive pressure washed, which will lighten the colour significantly. Over time, the drive and the new concrete will blend better as the new concrete ages.
