I have a small two brick high besser brick retaining wall. I would like to improve it’s aesthetics by rendering if possible as I presume it will be much cheaper than replacing… what do I need to consider?
Hello @tkingham
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about rendering your retaining wall.
It's great to hear you've decided to render your brick wall. One thing that you have to watch out for is water coming out of the bricks surface. If you are getting excessive water or moisture coming out of the surface of the brick it will be necessary to dig the soil at the back of the bricks and sealing it with a bitumen rubber sealer such as Gripset Betta 1L Waterproofing Membrane Bitumen Rubber. You'll then need to wait for the brick to dry off properly before you render its surface.
However. if it appears that nothing is coming out of the bricks surface then you just need to give it a good clean with a bristle broom before you render the surface.
Here is a handy step-by-step guide: How To Render
