Hi all,
I would like to render external brick wall of my garage. The garage door is an arch with a metal arch under it. Could anyone guide me how to render over it please? Thanks
Hello @tonytr
Thanks for sharing your question about rendering your arch. In this instance, I propose leaving the metal arch uncovered and just painting it in Dulux Texture paint in the same colour as the render. In this manner you won't have to worry about the render falling off the steel surface. You can render right up to the edge of the steel and hide it plain sight.
Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @Nailbag for their suggestions.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Hi @tonytr
This is not a beginner DIY project especially with the added complication of the arch. All leading edges of the walls, opening and arch need to have a metal exterior for strength and durability. So, for starters making that perfect arch curve would be a challenge for an experienced render.
I would either take @EricL advice on a more simpler achievable coating, to get quotes on a professional job.

Good Morning @tonytr
I havnt rendered any walls as yet looking forward one day to having a go.
I would definently follow @EricL 's suggestion for painting the underside of the arch (metal part) And really wouldnt have thought it would be a problem rendering brickwork. (Never tried it myself) As a starting point I will try a test area somewhere out of the way, maybe at the rear of the garage and see how it goes on?
