Re: Backyard Renovation

Hi @swapna,

You've got a nice clean slate for what would be a fantastic outdoor entertaining area. Personally, I wouldn't make any major structural changes, I would just be looking at fitting out the area so it is both welcoming and usable.

If it were my home, I would look at installing an outdoor kitchen.

I would also be looking at some Outdoor Dining Sets and possibly some outdoor heating.

In the uncovered area, I would give the wall a good clean and a coat of paint, then hang some festoon lights between the wall and the roof.

Allow me to tag @prettyliving, @Dave-1 and @twocutekelpies to see if they have any ideas for the space.

Let me know what you think.

Good Afternoon @swapna

I do like @JacobZ 's suggestions, and have a few more to add to them.

- A metal trellis to grow grapes on on the outside green walls.

- A long external timber to have large family lunches at (next to the grape vines in summer)

- Lighting as @JacobZ has mentioned will change up the area.

- Maybe repainting the deck from a brown to a washed out white?

- Projector screen against the wall oppisite the curved timber seating. Even for a static screen shot during an evening at parties would also be different.

Re: How to renovate backyard?

Thanks @JacobZ  and @Dave-1 for your suggestions
My thoughts are

1) to have sliding door, to avoid dust, and wind and use this as another room like

2) to have table tennis pool
3) or dining space
4) or install pizza oven, or kitchen
Do you think these ideas are suitable

Re: How to renovate backyard?

Afternoon @swapna

So the "green walls" I was thinking of, are the cement rendered ones just outside teh curved seating  Tho you could still do the metal trellis along the fence. (not on the fence as it will break the fence)

ARC 3850mm x 2000mm x 6mm Reinforcing Ribbed Mesh  and spray paint it black.

Hang it off the wall with either brackets / standoff timbers, or on posts, with the posts being at least 600mm into the ground.

There are smaller mesh pieces available or people tend to want to get rid of offcuts so keep an eye out for them.

Your other ideas are doable but would give a miss to a sliding door and go for the clear patio screen instead. Marquee PVC Outdoor Cafe Blind - Clear 3000mm x 2400mm.

Really it comes down to the style you want, matching something similar to what you have inside helps transition into the outdoor area. If you only intend to use it seasonaly then it may exclude things. A fixed door might make it hard for table tennis.

Re: How to renovate backyard?

Hi @swapna,

They sound like some great ideas and you already have a fantastic foundation to start from.

One thing to consider if you were to enclose the space with sliding doors is whether you would need to apply for building approval. Before setting your sights on closing in the space, it would be worth checking with your local council to see what they require. They may require you to have building plans drawn up and submitted for approval.

If you didn't want to go to this extent, then some bistro blinds could be a good way to close in the space without too much complexity.

Let me know what you think.
