How to repair a window sill tile that is unavailable?

Hi all, I was wondering if I could get some advice. I have some old 1970s style window sill tiles, but before I bought the house they have been damaged. I’ve looked everywhere and I can’t find anything like it.
What would be the best way to repair these? (I do not have the broken off bits).

Am I correct in needing to use some or other putty and mold it to shape and paint over? Something like this? https://www.bunnings.com.au/timbermate-1kg-agnew-s-water-putty_p1560643

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your window sill.

I propose getting a piece of timber that is ever so slightly thinner than your window sill. Place the timber piece at the bottom front of the sill. Using a pencil trace the outline of the damaged section, cut the outline with a coping saw. Place the cut wood section into the damaged section with Selleys liquid nails and allow it to cure.

Once the piece of wood has bonded itself to the sill, I suggest using Turbo 500ml Builder's Bog to fill the surface so that it is in line with the sill's height. Allow the bog to dry and then sand down until it is at the same level as the sill. Wipe the surface of the patch clean and paint it in the same colour as your sill.

Mmmm thats kind of a hard one, I was thinking if you could find a larger tile and cut it down to suit and then paint the window sill area to blend? You would have to go easy on removing the old ones but slow and steady may win the race. It may take a little practice with a cutting blade to trim a tile down so it matches. A lot of timber yards stocking recyled timber seem to have old tiles and that would be a place I would start or continue looking 🙂

The method @EricL has mentioned is a great solution. But I would continue the search a little more first. If you live in Melbourne as there are available from here. Maybe you can arrange for a couple to be shipped to you if you're out of state. Otherwise try Googling "Used Glazed Sill Bricks". It might have been an incorrect search word you were using as they are a brick not a tile.

Thanks to everyone that offered help. @Nailbag - I did see that website when I was looking, but they don't seem to be an exact match, and unsure how to taper or get them down to size to match 🙁

I will try and experiment with @EricL 's solution and see how I go. Thanks again for the advice everyone

Hi @rockylobster

You could easily swap and thickness the brick sills with one of these diamond cup wheels. Sure easy and very effective to use with an angle grinder.
