On inserting the key in the the security door lock it does not open easily. I have to keep on struggling to open the lock. being senior citizen its quite frustrating. I was wondering if Bunnings has the same type of lock which I could just replace with a new one.
attached pix of the door.
thanks
Hi @nfds,
It sounds like the lock mechanism might be sticking, which can be quite frustrating. Before replacing the lock, it’s worth trying a simple solution first. I recommend using some graphite powder, which can help lubricate the lock and make it easier to turn. To apply it, place the nozzle of the graphite powder in the key opening and puff a little powder inside. Then, apply some of the powder to the teeth of the key as well. Insert the key into the lock and turn it several times, working the powder around. Pull the key in and out a few times to ensure the powder gets into all the moving parts of the lock.
If this doesn’t resolve the issue and the lock is still difficult to open, you’ll likely need to replace it. To do that, you’ll need to remove the whole assembly and bring it into your closest Bunnings store. Our team can help you match the lock with something that will fit your door. There’s a good chance that we have a similar lock available that will work for your security door.
