How to replace a coldmix path?

We did a coldmix pathway back a while but its never set well and isnt nice to walk on and puts tar on shoes/doormats etc so wanting to do something without having to pull it up. Can I just do a layer on top of concrete/cement or what is best? Has a wood edging that I can conrete to or over and want to leave it in. Even if its just a something that would work short term and look good I'd be happy

There are many things you can do here I will mention a few things I first think off I don't rate one solution higher than the other as it is what you want,

1 You could use synthetic turf just glued down with Grass Adhesive

2 Rubber matting on top

3 Plastic Pavers Strol 0.5m² SurePave Plastic Pavers I/N: 3452192 $21.64

4 Stone or cement stepping stones Various sizes

4.5 Treated pine deck boards screwed and glue into tar.

5 Pour-in-Place 1.5m2 Forest Green Wetpour Rubber Surfacing I/N: 3321476 $79

6 Concrete 50mm thick. Just dig out the cold mix and use the existing from work 🙂

7 If you wanted budget option recycled carpet panels cut and screwed down from flooring shops as the tear up old carpets all the time. Won't last forever but it is free.

If you’re leaning toward concreting, it’s important to note that for a durable and lasting result, you’ll need to dig out the cold mix first. Cold mix isn’t a solid substrate, and any thin layer of concrete poured over it would likely crack and fail over time. Removing the cold mix will allow you to pour concrete directly onto a stable base, ensuring a strong and reliable surface.

Once the cold mix is removed, you can reuse the existing wooden edging as a formwork to pour your concrete. For a temporary fix, some of the other options like rubber surfacing or stepping stones could work, but for a long-term solution, concrete is your best bet as long as it’s laid over a solid foundation.
