How to replace faulty Lytworx power adapter?

We have had our lights up for almost a year and they took some time getting right. We recently went to turn them on but they won’t stay on, rather flicker. We’ve tried lots of different trouble shooting and think we’ve narrowed it down to the power supply. we really don’t want to have to take all the lights down to return to Bunnings and hoping we can just get a new power adapter. Any ideas? 💡

Would it be possible for you to post a photo of the back of the power adapter. It usually has details regarding its voltage output and number of amps it provides. I'll try and ask our electrical team at the store and see if spares are available for this type of power supply. As soon as we have more information, we'll get back to you.

Just to help out @EricL how long is the overall length of lights? And have you joined a few together?

Ive just "fixed" my mums Christmas lights, they are a few seasons old and the sun has done a decent job in pushing them to the limnit (limit was a bird chewing on the lights when mum didnt give the bird seed at the right time) If the lights are multiple sections joined together, maybe disconnect the second section (you prob have tried that already 🙂 ) and see if it still flickers.

Hi Dave, we just have the standard 30 glove length and haven’t joined any sets together. They are under our pergola, so are still in excellent condition. They are only a year old as we purchased last year for our New Year’s party. They’ve only been switched on a handful of times since purchased so we were disappointed when they wouldn’t work properly recently.

I have recently done some investigating for a similar issue in the discussion How to replace power supply for Lytworx 24 Warm White LED Café Lights?

I found the Lytworx adaptor uses a slightly different pin than other 12V adaptors, meaning there was unfortunately no off-the-shelf replacement.

My suggestion is to contact our Spare Parts team for assistance with a replacement. If you can remember the exact lights that you purchased, this would certainly help them narrow down a replacement, but the photo you have provided would certainly be a start.

Hi @blaister,

Have you discussed this issue with the store of purchase? I'd recommend you take your proof of purchase and the power adaptor into the Bunnings store and speak to a manager. Since the product is likely still under warranty and if you can explain the situation, I trust the manager will do their best to swap the power adaptor over.

Hi there,

Really interested to know if you managed to find a suitable adapterreplacement? We are having the same issue, the adapter for our Lytworx Festoon lights (less than a year old) has blown. I've searched high and low online but can't find the exact specs, particularly matching the output voltage of 26V which is pretty crucial! All the other specs I can match.

I even contacted Dats Pty Ltd which was listed on the tag on the light lead itself, but no luck there.

Really hoping can just resolve the issue by getting another adapter! Seems simple enough 🤔 would be a shame to waste money, and the lights if we can't power them.

The faulty transformer secondary voltage is 24V DC and the wattage is 9W.

I = P/E

I = 9/24

I = 0.375A or 375mA (Transformer current rating).

With that bit of trivia out of the way let's move on.

Tools:

Multimeter.

Click Hobbyist Multimeter (0381004)

Cutters.

Strippers.

Knife.

Screwdriver set.

Terminal block - Deta 20A 12 Terminal Connector Strip (4332100)

Purchase:

24V 1A 24W Power Supply Adapter AC 100V-240V to DC 24volts Power Adapter Universal Switching 24V Christmas LED Light Strip

Cut the plug off the LED lights and strip the ends - twist together.

Cut the plug off the new transformer and strip the ends - twist together.

Cut off two terminals (pair) off the strip.

Polarity check:

We must connect power supply positive to LED wire positive.

Same for the negatives.

Transformer polarity check:

Make sure the transformer wires are separated.

Plug in and switch on transformer.

Set multimeter to DC 200 and check the wires.

If you get a negative reading swap the probes.

The transformar wire on the black probe is negative.

Identify that negative wire with a bit of sticky or masking tape.

LED lights polarity check:

Set the multimeter to diode mode.

Touch the red probe to one wire and the black probe to the other wire.

If the LED lights up, the probe that's touching the strip's positive wire is red (positive) and the probe touching the negative wire is black (negative).

If the LED does not light up, reverse the probes.

Mark the negative wire.

Connections:

Insert the transformer wires into one side of the terminal block.

Connect LED light wires the other side observing polarity.

I'm sorry to hear you've had an issue with your lights. If your Lytworx Festoon lights are less than 12 months old, they should still be covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. I’d recommend returning both the lights and the adapter to the store you purchased them from, along with your proof of purchase. The team in-store should be able to assist with a replacement or offer a suitable solution.
