How to restain the deck?

I bought my house in 2010 and painted the 22.5 sqm of jarrah hardboard (I think) decking around 2018 using Cabot's Deck and Exterior Stain. I did not sand back then. Currently, some of the boards need replacement due to wear and tear.

Questions- should the whole decking be sanded first before this next paint? I have some of the original Cabot's stain left, is it OK to use? Pls see pics Thank you - I would appreciate your advice

Hi @Kellba ,

With Cabots Aquadeck, no sanding is required if the existing coating is in good condition and not darker than your chosen Aquadeck colour. If the existing coating has peeled, flaked, deteriorated unevenly or is a darker colour than the Aquadeck colour chosen, we recommend that you completely remove the existing coating with a coatings stripper or by sanding back to bare timber, and then clean with Cabot’s Deck Clean to achieve the best result.

You can use Aquadeck over any existing coating if the existing coating is at least 30 days old and in good condition. If the existing coating has peeled, flaked or deteriorated unevenly, we recommend that you completely remove the existing coating with a coatings stripper or by sanding back to bare timber to achieve the best result.

It's great that you've received excellent advice from @Marty_greenshed. I totally agree with the suggestions made by Marty. My best advice is to use a good quality applicator in order to get a good finish.
