How to restore cubby house?

I have outdoor cubby which has been damaged due to weather. I would like to know the best options DIY to restore back to original. I have attached the photos for your reference.

Re: How to restore cubby house?

Hi @rajeshk,

The cubby house is in fairly good condition and there doesn't appear to be any structural damage, which is great. To begin the restoration, inspect the timber for any areas that are heavily deteriorated or that are splintering. If you find sections that are particularly worn, sand them back to a smooth surface using coarse grit sandpaper.

For the rest of the cubby, a light sanding will help prepare the wood for treatment, though it's likely not necessary. Once the sanding is complete, coat the entire cubby with an exterior timber oil. This will not only restore the timber’s appearance but also provide protection against future weather damage, ensuring the cubby remains in good condition for years to come. The exterior oil will help nourish the wood and create a water-resistant barrier, ideal for outdoor structures like cubby houses. Just remember to add another maintenance coat every year or two.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
