How to restore weathered outdoor furniture?

Hi everyone, I’d like to have a go at restoring or at least improving the look of our outdoor furniture. The timber looks like it may have some mould or mildew. What do I need to do to get it to a reasonable state (I am completely to new to this type of stuff so any hints or thoughts are very welcome).

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

First, I would start by applying a timber mould treatment like this Intergrain Ultraprep Mould Killer, carefully following the instructions on the pack and wearing safety gear like gloves and a mask. You'll want to apply the diluted mix to the timber and scrub it with a scrubbing brush, and then leave it for 15 minutes before removing with high-pressure water from a garden hose or pressure washer.

You should then sand the entire surface with 120-grit sandpaper to smooth and prepare the surface and remove the outer layer of weathered timber. You can use a combination of hand sanding and powered sanders, with a random orbital sander being the most useful for your project.

Once sanded, you should apply two coats of a protective oil such as this Feast Watson Hardwood Outdoor Furniture Oil using a cloth, brush or roller.
