How to screen a hot water tank?

Hi,

I am about to screen a new outdoor hot water tank to protect it from the sun. Two sides need screening and I thought a post and rail frame structure along the two affected sides, and against a brick wall would work. Question? How can I arrange the front screen to be readily removable to access the control display unit - I don’t want to cut out an observation window. Are there ‘hangers’, fixed to the screen, that will do the job that allow the screen to be readily lifted off. Thanks in anticipation…

A custom attachment method can definitely work well for this project. One option, especially if you don’t need to access the control display regularly, is to create your post and rail frame and then use screening panels that can be removed when needed. Instead of cutting out an observation window, you could fix the front screen panel with screws or clips that allow you to remove it entirely when you need access.

For an easy-to-remove solution, you could install hanger-style brackets on the screen that hook over the frame or French cleats. These would allow you to lift the front screen panel on and off without the need for permanent screws. If you're going for a neater look, Taskmaster Zinc Double Roller Catches or concealed hinges can also work, depending on the weight and material of the screening panel.

Remember to abide by any setback requirements in the hot water heater installation guidelines.
