Hi, I've just completed my build of the good times deck which I'm looking forward to using after I oil it. I've also built a step to the house. What's the best way of attaching this step? The step is built using 2 80cm h3 90 x 45 frames and 2 18cm sides stripped to 70 x 45 so as to allow airflow. Also has a noggin laid on its side in the middle for the same reason.
I was thinking of using angle brackets to secure the step's frame to the 19mm merbau decking (seems rather thin) but wasn't sure what size fixings would be right. Or do I fix through the merbau into the subframe below?
Thanks
Hello @snipwhip
That mini step looks fantastic! I propose removing the steps top panel so that you can access the frame of the step from the inside. I suggest installing the angle brackets inside so that it won't be seen from the outside. I recommend drilling into the decking frame so that the step will be very secure. I suggest using the same screws you used for your decking panels, please make sure that the angle bracket you use is galvanized so that it will be able to withstand harsh weather. Once the step is secure you can re-install the steps top panel.
