How to stop light bleed above outdoor blinds?

Hi I had blinds installed I wish they had of been installed a little higher, the posts they are drilled into are hollow metal posts so I can't really ask them to move them up higher. there is a gap of about a cm or 2 at the top which is annoying re distracting light bleed.

They are installed on the deck so I would just need to put a strip of something behind the roller on the wooden beam to hide the gap, but I don't know what and what to affix it with two spaces about 4m wide. It's a tiny gap I know, shouldn't be too hard to cover its just quite distracting when it's really bright.

Yes that light gap would annoy me too lol

You are right in finding a solution.

I think the best solution might be to lift them up. Consider a rolled up blind is fatter and will leave a new light gap when they are pulled down un rolled. So may not be best solution after all

Grab a handyman if need be as other solutions requires even more materials and work.

Maybe consider either inside or outside the porch verandah lip add a flat timber panel that is long enough to hang down far enough to hide the roller as looking at the house from the outside. So the timber will serve hiding the light gap at the same time hiding for the most part the roller.

The idea is to regularly screw the plastic or timber along the blinds length in 400 to 500mm spacings as it is light in weight either inside the verandah lip or on the outside. It is paintable seal any gaps with outdoor no more gaps also paintable.

Thanks I there is electrical cabling about half way up the panel . I’d prob rather do it on the inside just the plastic strip I reckon, I have never used a drill can the screws be screwed in by hand by any chance or maybe small nails or something ?

I reread your message there is plenty of blind at the bottom so could have been installed a bit higher but they are drilled into metal posts so I don’t really want them to move them now as there will be new holes .. I’m not sure how to fill a hole in a metal post, I’ll consider a handy man to come do it’s hard to find someone for small jobs though cheers Di

It's great to see that @Jewelleryrescue is already assisting.

You might find that if the blinds only need to be lifted slightly to prevent the light blled, then the old holes would still be covered by the blinds and not need filling. Alternatively, you could consider screwing a length of 66 x 42mm 5.4m F7 H3 Treated Pine Primed LOSP to the room beam on its 42mm edge would cover the gap. You will need a drill driver to pre-drill the timber and attach it with screws.

Ok thanks the installers still need to come back as one of the blinds is crooked and one was hemmed on the wrong side so I’ll ask them to fix when they come back cheers
