Re: what causes this and what can be done

Hi @Thunderboy,

There are a few reasons that your murraya might be experiencing leaf drop in a localised area.

The first is that there are pests such as psyllids, leaf miners, scale or aphids attacking that section of your murraya. If you can inspect the branches below the bare patch, can you see any insects or pests that could be causing this and if so, snap some photos and upload them?

Other potential causes are fungal issues and diseases, watering issues and environmental factors such as sunburn or excessive heat exposure.

For us to get a better idea of what is happening, can you take some photos showing inside the bare patch, looking for things like insects, damage to branches, odd growths or sappy deposits?

Can you also clear around the base of the tree and trim back the low-lying branches so we can get a better look at the soil and the trunk of the tree?

There is a good chance that some closer inspection will reveal what is happening and guide us on how to improve things moving forward.

Allow me to tag our knowledgeable gardeners @Noelle and @mich1972 to see if they have any thoughts.

Jacob
