Is a pressure regulator valve needed?

Hey team,

a quick question:

I had a tradie come in to check on my leaking taps . He says i need to install a pressure regulating valve on the mains. He says my property doesn't have one. He also suggested i install a filter.

I am just reaching out to confirm if such a thing is required on property mains supply. These are the photos of the mains water supply into my residence. if anyone is familiar on the topic please let me know

Generally speaking, I would trust the advice of your plumber as they are working in your area, and this is their field of expertise, so they should be aware of the relevant regulations in your area.

To confirm whether this is a requirement, it would be best to contact your local council or the relevant water authority in your area. They will be able to confirm if the advice you have received is correct or not.

As @JacobZ has suggested, I would contact your council to find out your local ruling or even get a quote from another plumber not associated with the first plumber. I know taht some areas may have slightly different setups for the delivery of water so maybe even check with your water provider. They may have a FAQ on their webpage that answers common questions?

Hi @bm,

Wondering what the water pressure is like at your front garden tap.

The 10 litre bucket test is popular and even used by the water corporations.

Our provider is Yarra Valley Water:

Check your providers website for info and even contact them to discuss.

Even if your water pressure was a bit on the high side just close off the water main a bit.
