Family-friendly small backyard ideas with low-maintenance planting and a firepit?

I'm looking for inspiration and ideas to make this backyard appealing and family friendly. Right now, we get so many misquitos during hotter months that makes it impossible to sit outaide.

I would love a small firepit in the corner.

I am also thinking of chopping some trees down (I love the trees but they have outgrown the backyard and are too close to neighbouring fences to maintain).

Appreciate all input and design ideas.

The last two photos are dimensions and AI generated idea. I really like a cactus garden and something low maintenance.

I also live in Carina Heights and any suggestion to deal with mozzies ba great!

I would recommend you start with the guide How to plan a garden makeover. It might help you start to put together a wishlist and help you to break down the project into manageable chunks.

You should get some great ideas and inspiration from member projects on this site. Have a look at our Top 10 most popular backyard projects and D.I.Y. fire pit ideas for starters. Our Featured Projects section has many more.

It also would be also really helpful for our members if you could share a simple pencil sketch of the dimensions of your backyard and any features you need or want to keep. That way they would be in a much better position to be able to make recommendations for how best to utilise the space. You might also like to share where you are based so members can suggest the most appropriate plants for your garden (and how to combat those pesky mozzies!)
