Good afternoon guys.
I’m looking to build an outside Kaboodle kitchen.
I’m at a loss on how to design the BBQ drop in section.
It would seem I’m missing something? Or are people altering an aspect?
I just want draws into one side 900
then maybe some cupboards under the bbq and then I’m having a fridge under the other side. Very simple.. well so I thought. All Kaboodle bases are 720 high, so how do you get the bbq drop in section? Raise the sides? Get cupboards n cut down? Please enlighten me, as I am in fear I’m over complicating the situation.
Looks amazing well done!!
Just wondering what you used for the cabinet and drawer fronts? Also a kaboodle product that you painted?
I used Kaboodle door and drawer fronts that come unpainted or “raw board”. Then I painted it with an external semi-gloss house paint for protection.
Looks nice.
Q what clearance did you have between the sides of the free standard bbq and cabinets/back wall?
thanks
Hello @dabba
Thanks for sharing your question about mmasci's outdoor kitchen. Let me tag @mmasci to make them aware of your kind words and question. Looking at the final finished photo, it appears to be a large gap at around 50 to 60 millimetres in length. But let's wait for @mmasci to confirm.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

It is about 50mm. Note the wall behind it is a 200mm solid concrete block wall. So I wasn't worried about heat or fire.
The BBQ design has a feature where the very bottom sticks out 50mm so if you push it up against any wall it leaves that air gap.
Be aware of your particular BBQ you choose as to makes sure when you open the hood it doesn't hit the wall behind it. I think most BBQs the hood hinges such that the hood doesn't stick out too far past the back of the BBQ itself.
It is important to have the heat resistant materials or the required gap away from the edges of the BBQ.
Hi there, am doing a similar project to yours, however, as I needed specific measurements to accomodate a kegerator I have built the cabinets myself out of MDF instead of using kaboodle. I actually have the same bbq as yours - Beefeater 1700.
My biggest concern is fire proofing and gaps between the bbq and cabinets.
I'd just like to know if you've had any heat issues at all with the gaps you've left? Another post says the gap is 50mm, is that 50mm from the outer edge of the bbq stand to the edge of the cabinets? Looks a bit less than that in the photos.
And I believe you've lined the edge of the cabinets with a sheet of fibro cement as well? Can I ask exactly what product you've used here if you can remember?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us.
Let me tag @mmasci to make them aware of your questions. Looking at the photos, I believe that it is the angle of the shots that make it look like the gap between the BBQ and cabinet is actually quite smaller. Whereas the second photo of the completed BBQ clearly shows a very large gap between the cabinetry and the BBQ itself. We'll have to wait for mmasci to confirm what fibro material was used and if the gap is smaller.
