Thanks mate, I've only used a couple of screws to hold the sheet on, ive overlapt the jionts in the corners and didnt use any type of sealant at all.

It looks like @darryl7, may have already answered your question earlier in the thread. 

"the benchtop is just merbau boards glued and screwed from underneath the bench carcass"

They look to me to be 140 x 19mm SpecRite Merbau Pre-Oiled Decking.
