Our vision was to experience a calming and relaxing retreat outdoors.
The original patio area was original and about 60 years old and the plan was to bring it into the 2020s.
First step was painting the roof with paint from Bunnings and then continuing downwards and into the garden.
A labour of hard work and love was then learning how to tile and grout with the Bunnings tiles onto the brick wall to give it a original but unique look, and then tying it all in with Bunnings furniture.
This is now place to relax and enjoy with family and friends
Paint from Bunnings Dulux wash and wear Vivid White
Paint brushes, rollers, paint trays, painting tape
Tiles from Bunnings Decor 8 300 x 300 Beige Java Marble Tile Mosaic
Tile Adhesive Davco glue
Davco easy grout 4 litres
Rubber mallet, Sponges, Tile trowel, Tape measure, Gloves
Bostern fern wall tiles artifical hedge, screws, Bamboo garden screens, Decor8 Charcoal grey vertical paver and Liquid nails heavy duty adhesive with gun
Painting the ceiling of the entertaining area using sugar soap first to clean the area. Using paint brush initially to paint around edges and in the groves.
Proceed then to use small hand roller and paint tray to apply 3 coats in total of the ceiling. Slow work as stiff neck ensured.
Next project was covering up the existing painted brick wall. This was a sand based paint that was used to cover burnt brick from a fire to the back part of the house many years previously.
Seeing the Mosaic tiles at Bunnings and previous travel to Indonesia gave me the idea to do the wall in the tile.
Special order desk was a blessing for me and got to know the staff well with all my ordering.
The tiles went up and then I Mosaic spare pieces around the corners of the windows and the rear door.
Then teaching myself to grout with Bunnings online videos.
The smaller wall first as easier to put up with no fitting around windows. Also a bit of a learning exercise before taking on the larger wall with windows involved.
The second wall covering the yellow paint by layering the Mosaic tiles over the top and then cutting out small Mosaic stone pieces to fit around the windows
Window and door, just like a jigsaw puzzle
Slowly grouting the wall which I actually enjoyed. A bit rough on the hands at times but managed to get the consistency of grout worked out ....it's a bit like batter for a cake !
Both mosaic walls Bunnings tiles completed with plants, outdoor rugs
View of the other end of the entertaining area.with painted ceiling.
Added the Stone around the pillars by using the Decor8 400 x 100 Silver black stacked stone and placing onto brick pillar using Adhesive glue. Next came placing above the pool room was the Bunnings UN REAL 50 x 50 Artifical hedge Bosten fern. I fixed these on by using my husbands nail gun Ryobi Airwave from Bunnings
The pillar stone work
The pillar stone work up close using the Decor8 400 x 125 Charcoal grey and Adhesive glue. Slowly working from bottom up
Fixed the Bosten tiles with my Husbands nail gun Ryobi Airwave and clipping them together. A bit of trimming up the top was required to fit around the ceiling beams
Bought furniture to complete and decorate both ends of our Outdoor room
The bamboo fencing screens from Bunnings placed at the back of the small garden bed to hide the old green fence. Put up using my husbands Bunnings Makita Lithium Ion drill and bunnings screws to complete the look.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Cometdog. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for sharing your project.
What an incredible transformation! You’ve done such a beautiful job bringing your outdoor area into the modern era. It looks like the perfect spot to unwind. I really like how you’ve tied everything together with the mosaic feature walls and the stone around the pillars, as they add so much texture and warmth to the space. The mix of greenery and natural tones gives it that calming retreat feel you were aiming for.
You should be really proud of the effort and creativity that’s gone into this project. It’s a fantastic result.

Good Morning @Cometdog
Followed your project from a Facebook link as it caught my eye
You have seriously done some decent work. The thing that caught my eye is your tileing made it look like your side of the house was embedded into a hill its so consistant! You have nailed the brief of "an outdoor room"
Very nice work.
