Measure twice, cut once
Built base, with 4 sides plus two extra supports in both directions for stability and ensured it was level
The support posts for the shadecloth are bolted to the hardwood base
The pergola ceiling has supports to stop shadecloth from sagging and was attached with metal hooks that hammer into the timber through the shadecloth
Two wire cross pieces are attached on the top of the shadecloth to prevent flapping
