Just wondering if someone can comment on what the end gap range for 90x19 Merbeau deck should be. My deck has a 140mm wide picture frame an a 90 board division in the middle so all the pieces are 1.8m long.
also is 5mm too much gap between boards? If you could comment on my drawing for screw centres wether they are ok or not.
(see drawing)
Thanks in advance.
Hi @Mot,
Thank you for your question about gap sizing on your merbau deck.
Generally, you should have a gap of 3-6mm between decking boards and anywhere they butt against other boards. 5mm is not too much gap, just make sure you are consistent across the whole deck. You can maintain consistency by using Deck Spacers.
You should aim to have your screws at least 20mm in from each edge to help avoid splitting or fracturing the timber.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
