I am about to do some landscaping down the side of the brick house. this will involve some backfilling with soil to attain some levelling against the brick wall. i wanted to protect the bricks from absorbing moisture, most of the brickwork will have plastic water proof membrane but a course or two of the bricks may not. i was wondering if the crommelin 4L water based brick and render sealer would be suitable or is it not robust enough.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @binway. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about sealing bricks.
Will the backfill be going above the damp course line? If so, I wouldn’t recommend that at all, as it can lead to significant moisture problems. If the backfill is below the damp course, then I’d suggest using something more robust than the Brick and Render Sealer. A product like Crommelin 4L Blackseal Heavy Duty Bitumen Waterproofing Membrane would be a better option, as the Brick and Render Sealer is really intended for above-ground use to provide a water-resistant layer to bricks prior to painting rather than long-term ground contact.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
