What replacement filter for Ryobi RVC-1220I-G wet dry/vacuum?

I have a Ryobi RVC-1220I-G 20L wet dry/vacuum , and need to replace the filter.

Looking in my local bunnings, I see several different types of Powerfit filters which say they suit Ryobi vacuums, but none of them identify which model they are for.

Any ideas on how to choose the right one?

The Ryobi range of wet/dry vacuums has kept its filters relatively standard. This means that the Powerfit filters typically fit all models. The PowerFit Cartridge Filter will fit your Ryobi 20L Stainless Steel Wet And Dry Workshop Vacuum RVC-1220I-G.

I had a look at this post before purchasing an expensive PowerFit HEPA filter at Bunnings - only to come back home & come across some further-confusing info on Ryobi website whilst watching one of their videos…

I inherited the 20L Wet/Dry Ryobi vac from my partner, who has evidently not been aware of this important little bit of information!..
It is now my understanding is that Ryobi wet/dry vac actually needs 2 filters : one for dry-vacuuming, and one for wet-vacs… and one needs to swap them around for each time of job (depending on whether it’s dry or wet).

So, my new HEPA filter - whilst extremely useful for my health - is no good for wet vacuuming.
When spending further 30 mins searching for the right “wet” filter (apparently, a foam “bag” is what I need), I am still unsure of the size / brand I need to get for the 20L Ryobi Model.

Could you please let me know whether Bunnings supplies one that would fit? Sorry about all the questions - I inherited this vacuum from a friend and it came with no instructions (and Ryobi website has no info that would answer this), and never had a wet/dry vac before. This Ryobi is in desperate need of some TLC!..

No issue about the questions, that's what we're here for!

Fortunately, it's the same deal as above; the PowerFit Heavy Duty Foam Filter fits the Ryobi RVC-1220I-G wet-dry/vacuum and several of the previous models.

Remember that the foam filter goes directly over the plastic cage. You can't run the paper dust filter whilst wet vacuuming or it will become saturated.

thanks so much for your response and the diagram (I’m a very visual person haha)!!

so, can I please double-check that I understand this correctly:

- for wet vacuuming, I make sure there’s no filter and no dust bag in the vacuum, then place the foam filter directly over the plastic housing.
- for dry vacuuming, I need to place a dust bag (can you recommend one I can get in Bunnings for wet/dry 20L ryobi?), then my new HEPA filter (no foam filter needed).

Is that correct?

Hello @TreasureRehab

It's exactly as you described it. To keep it simple, when doing dry vacuuming use the dust bag. For wet vacuuming use only the foam filter. Never mix together or use at the same time.

thanks so much for your response! I’ll go get that dust bag - don’t think my mate ever used one, so I just gave the whole thing a huge clean, hopefully it’ll start working as new!..
