What timber for a catio?

What timber for a catio?

Hi there, I’m in the process of purchasing all the materials for a new outdoor catio. I’ve already got cypress posts and was planning on using treated pine for the remainder. But I’ve since learnt that treated pine is not great for cats to be around. Especially if they are scratching at it. I’m just wondering what I could use instead of treated pine?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Timber for a catio!

Hello @ames19

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about your catio.

I propose using Merbau timber, SpecRite's pre-oiled merbau decking is an extremely durable, long-lasting, tannin-rich hardwood. It has a consistent red-brown colour and is easy to work with in terms of clean cutting and easy fastening. My best advice is to allow the tannins to weather away before you decide to paint or stain the timber surface.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric
