We are planning to build a carport. Hornsby council says DA approval not required for 25 sq m but unable to find double carport that size. Nearest carport available is 5.4m x 5.5m. Do I need a DA approval

The final decision on whether you need a DA rests with Council, so it’s best to confirm with them directly. Based on what they’ve advised, 25 m² is the maximum size allowed without a DA. A carport measuring 5.4 m × 5.5 m works out to 29.7 m², which is over that threshold. Councils are usually strict with these cutoffs, so even a small amount over 25 m² could require approval.
