A new deck was the first step
1. Backyard transformation with deck by @LePallet
This comprehensive backyard makeover included landscaping, decking, raised garden beds, screening, planting, and new turf. There's also a wonderful play area for the kids, with a cubby, sandpit and chalkboard.
2. New outdoor entertaining area by @danieltheman
Workshop member Daniel had “never built anything” in his life. But after a fire damaged an old patio, Daniel constructed this stunning deck that has been hugely admired by the community.
3. Sideway makeover by @shayden06
Narrow areas down the side of a house can be tricky to work with, but this combination of decking and garden beds came up a treat. It’s a practical solution for easy access as well as creating a space for relaxing and enjoying the outdoors.
4. Low-level deck over brick pavers by @hadi
Daniel had “never built anything” in his life...
After months of careful planning and lots of amazing assistance from ever-helpful Workshop members, hadi used a modular decking frame from Bunnings for this wonderful low-level Merbau deck over the top of existing brick paving. "Without this forum it was impossible," says the proud owner.
5. Screen to hide a hot water system by @ProjectPete
This quick and easy project uses pre-made screening panels from Bunnings and a fast-growing climbing ficus to hide hot water systems from backyard view.
6. Fence makeover by spray painting by @KingStreetReno
Spray painting the fence with the ever-popular Dulux Domino in this Victorian cottage’s courtyard made the space immediately much more appealing and nearby plants look spectacular.
7. Backyard makeover with new deck and planter boxes by @maknilsin
With very limited space to work with and a modest budget, a stark and unappealing garden was transformed into an attractive and functional space perfect for outdoor entertaining. The planter boxes clad with timber decking boards have been particularly popular with the community, and double as bench seats for socialising.
Courtyard fence makeover
8. Low-level Merbau deck over concrete slab by @Neo19
Workshop member Neo19 got fantastic advice from the Workshop community to help them build a brilliant deck featuring 90 x 19mm Merbau boards from Bunnings. The discussion has also helped inspire and inform many other members tackling their own projects, with Neo19 kindly sharing his experiences to assist others.
9. Huge D.I.Y. Merbau deck by @Tara86
Tara was justifiably proud of completing their first deck from scratch. Measuring 12 by 4.2 metres, the Merbau deck cost around $6000 to build and will be a space that the family can enjoy for many years to come.
10. D.I.Y. cubby houses by @Yorky88
Pallet maestro Marty decided to build this fantastic cubby from pallet wood “on a whim” one weekend. He built it without plans and like another fantastic D.I.Y. cubby house creation from woodalwaysworks shared in the same discussion, it is an "open project" changing over time as the kids grow older.
