Can i mix skirting boards and architraves styles?

I am getting new floors installed and a

putting in new skirting boards. Our door architraves will remain in place and are an old colonial style.

Would it look weird if i was to put in a single bevel style skirting board versus matching colonial style ones (see photos attached)? Or would a bullnose style blend in with colonial better?

I dont like the colonial look and the single bevel will be easier to clean and install.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your skirting boards.

I believe using the bullnose finish will help it blend better with your existing trims. Harsh cut angles on timber trim tend to be more modern in appearance. When placed next to the older trim it will be very clear that the harsh angled timber trim is new.

Other than the same advice that @EricL provided, the only important cosmetic tip is to ensure the new skirting is the same thickness or thinner than the door architraves.

There would be a step if thicker so, you will need to put a small bevel on the end of the skirts to meet the same thickness.

I prefer the more straight edged skirt, maybe if you could get a thinner straight edge to match the old trim around teh door in height? Or end up like me where I have replaced the skirts around teh house as I do each room, so indervidually if the house was empty you would see but in reality the skirts just blend with furniture.

Thanks for your thoughts and advice on this.

I agree that the Bullnose style will blend in better with our existing style architraves. I will start off with one plank of the Bullnose and test it before buy the whole lot at once.
