Grid Connect tips, tricks and help

Hi all,

I thought it may he good to have a feed where we could share any tips and tricks to do with any of the Grid Connect Range being Arlec, Deta, Verve, Orion.

I am learning from trial and error and really just accident so sharing with others and sharing back we may be able to create some good learning information for us all.

Please post below starting with what the trick is as the title then how to do so as the body of information.

Re: Arlec Grid Connect Motion Sensor - not triggering action

Hello @CKL

Thanks for sharing your question about your Arlec Grid Connect Smart Home Motion Sensor. I would like to propose just double checking the sensor itself and its set up so that you can go through some trouble shooting steps. I suggest trying to reconnect the sensor to the hub and make sure that the sensor is fully recognized. Here is a handy link to the instructions - Smart Home Motion Sensor. Your program seems straightforward, and its a bit of mystery why its not working.

You can also have your program double checked by the Arlec team on 1800 826 859 or email them on cs@arlec.com.au.

I also suggest having a look at this discussion - Grid Connect motion sensor software issue by @ericd3nholm

Let me call on our experienced members @CSParnell and @GreenHouse for their recommendations.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric

Re: Arlec Grid Connect Motion Sensor - not triggering action

Hey @CKL @EricL

If you go into your app and into your sensor if it is working you will have a log of when it it triggered like below. You can even turn on notifications for testing purposes (then turn it off as it's annoying)

Start from there.

Also check your automation looks something like mine below.

The last 2 are how you set different brightness and intensity based on time of day.

Let me know  how u go

Re: Arlec Grid Connect Motion Sensor - not triggering action

Thanks Eric,

I followed the installation manual that comes with the package and found that after I completed STEP 5 (pairing your device), it didn't ask me to Select 2.4GHz (see below screenshot - it actually skipped this screen and went directly to another screen saying "device added successfully".  Not sure if this is where the issue happened which I thought it was properly connected but in fact it wasn't....

Re: Arlec Grid Connect Motion Sensor - not triggering action

Hi @CSParnell ,

Thanks for your advice. I did try to take a look at both "history" and "automation records", both are blank. Does it mean that my device was actually NOT connected to the Bluetooh Hub (I'm using Hub SG121HA) and the App?

However the weird thing is that when I tap the "Device Information", it shows all the mac address details and it looks like connected to the network.

I also replaced the battery for the sensor to make sure I can narrow down the issue on the device.

Thanks.

Re: Arlec Grid Connect Motion Sensor - not triggering action

Hi @CKL,

After connection, if the device is not triggering as @CSParnell has pointed out, it might be faulty and returning it for another might be worth trying. Alternatively, if you contact the Grid Connect team directly, they can confirm whether the sensor is faulty.  Swapping it over for a new one might be the simplest first step, as it appears that you're doing everything correctly.

Re: Arlec Grid Connect Motion Sensor - not triggering action

Hi @MitchellMc thanks and I think it's good idea to do an exchange for this coz i couldn't figure out what else went wrong.

Will do a swap at the bunnings store and see if this works.

Re: Arlec Grid Connect Motion Sensor - not triggering action

@CKL Def swap it over and see if that helps otherwise it's not paired correctly. When pairing it see if you can pair in AP mode rather than EZ mode as I always find that a much better way to pair devices. Also too make sure your Bluetooth hub is paired correctly as it might be paired to your hub correct but your hub might not be paired to the wifi correct and getting through to the cloud to allow the trigger event.

Re: Arlec Grid Connect Motion Sensor - not triggering action

Hi @CSParnell , @CKL

I've been successfully using what looks like the same Arlec Grid Connect Motion Sensor for years now, BUT my sensor is paired using an SG120HA Smart Hub with Socket.

I don't know what the difference is between the SG120HA and the SG121HA Smart Hubs, but if your sensor is paired correctly as Carl has advised above, but does not appear to work, it could well be faulty.

(All these different hubs sure make things complicated ! 😠 )

Re: Arlec Grid Connect Motion Sensor - not triggering action

Thanks @GreenHouse - Yeah I am using SG121HA and this has been connecting without any issue with my other Arlec devices. Will swap at Bunnings and share if this works.

Thanks all.

Chris

Re: Arlec Grid Connect Motion Sensor - not triggering action

@CKL @GreenHouse

Some insight!!!!!

What’s the difference between these two hubs?

SG120HA (Grid Connect Smart Home Control Kit)

This kit isn’t actually a “hub” in the usual sense; it’s a Bluetooth-based control unit that pairs with Grid Connect sensors like buttons, motion sensors, and contact sensors. It connects them to your home Wi‑Fi via the app.

It does not support certain models: SGS02HA, SGS03HA, and SGS04HA.

SG121HA (Orion Smart Wireless Hub with Socket)

This is a “smart Bluetooth bridge” with a built-in smart socket. It connects compatible Grid Connect locks to your Wi‑Fi network and supports up to 30 devices. The socket supports scheduling, countdown timers, and remembers its last state.

Compatible with Gainsborough locks (GLIBENTBL, GLIBLEVBL) and Orion DL series locks (DL011HA, DL021HA, DL026HA), and can also replace Orion DL018HA and DL033HA hubs.

So, what can connect to each hub?

Hub Model Intended Devices Not Compatible With

SG120HA Bluetooth sensors (buttons, motion, contacts), to trigger other Grid Connect gear via app SGS02HA, SGS03HA, SGS04HA

SG121HA Grid Connect Bluetooth locks (Orion + Gainsborough), plus control via built-in smart socket Non-lock Bluetooth devices (e.g., sensors)

They operate within the same Grid Connect ecosystem, but serve different roles: one as a sensor bridge, the other as a lock-centric hub with added plug control.

If you're triggering lights or actions with a motion sensor (as you posted), the SG120HA is the one you’d use—it's designed for those sensors.

If instead you're controlling door locks or want that extra smart plug socket, the SG121HA is the hub for the job.

They’re compatible in that they both work with the Grid Connect ecosystem, but they're not interchangeable: think “sensor trigger → SG120HA” vs “lock control + socket → SG121HA.”
