Hi all
I’ve just discovered this section on the website - it’s going to change my life!!!!! 😁
Wondering if anyone in the community has done any mosaicking? I’d like to start but have no idea where to!
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Julieg9426. We're so pleased that you've joined us!
Here are a few discussions that might be useful:
A tile might be a good project to take on as you get a feel for things. Here is a video with step-by-step instructions.
Let me tag @maryg, @TerryN, @CharlieG, @Shelby, @Mammasalt, @Jewhite123, @Diamondee, @gippslandhome who might also be able to share some wisdom.
We're here to help so please feel free share any questions you might have.

Hi @Julieg9426,
How'd you go reading through those discussions?
To get started, I'd recommend some basic tools and materials, including a Mandala Art Mosaic Glass Cutter, Mandala Art Mosaic Glue and Mandala Art White Super Fine Mosaic Grout. This Mandala Art range is fantastic when beginning mosaicing.
We also have a great range of coloured tiles which you can use. If cutting your own tiles is a bit daunting for a first project, I can suggest using the pre-cut tiles similar to Mandala Art Mosaic Glass Tiles. For my first project, I used the pre-cut pieces and found it a breeze to create something I was proud of. I'm not sure if it is a snail or a nautilus, but I'll include an image below either way.
I look forward to seeing your first project and would encourage you to let us know if you have any questions or need assistance.
Mitchell
Thanks Mitchell - I’m going to my first class this weekend so hope to absorb LOTS of knowledge and I love this group!!
Hello @Julieg9426
You can do it Julie! Remember nothing is set in cement until you glue it to the table! Even then you still have a chance to change it until the glue hardens. Don't be afraid to cut tile or glass you've got heaps of chances to try over and over again! Looking forward to your first attempt. Please post your work!
Cheers,
Red
How was the class @Julieg9426? We'd love to see your work.
It was great thanks Jane - I’ve finished tiling and grouting and tomorrow I’ll clean it up and post all three photos 🙂
Here’s the stages and the finished bird!
Sorry to hear that you are having trouble adding multiple photos. If you're on a phone, you just need to add them one at a time. It's often a little easier if you add one, then add some text, then add another one. When on a desktop computer you can add as many photos as you like in one go.
Hi Jane
Even when trying to upload a photo on my desktop I get this error:
Your post has been changed because invalid HTML was found in the message body. The invalid HTML has been removed. Please review the message and submit the message when you are satisfied.
I'm using a Mac but that shouldn't matter!
Sorry for the bother @Julieg9426.
Can you please try again for me? I've made a small tweak to your account that should address the issue. We certainly support Macs here on Bunnings Workshop - I use one too.
Can you please let me know whether you were using the Insert Photos button at the top of the text editor or the Upload Images button at the bottom?
Thanks again for your patience.
Jason
Hi Jason
I’ve tried both ways but still no success. I don’t get the error now and it looks like the photo upload has worked but then the photos aren’t there in the post 😭
If you have your pictures in a folder in your mac the steps should be the following.
Click on the upload images button at the lower left corner of the reply screen.
You should now have a new screen saying Photos with a button in the middle saying " Choose file"
Upon clicking the choose file button your mac should now open another window displaying file locations, look for the folder containing your photo.
Were going to test it so just choose 1 photo. please note that the photo has to be either a .,jpg or .png format if it is in another format you will need to convert it to the aforementioned file types. Click on your photo and choose open. It should now load to the photo window and you should see a little picture of it loaded on the upper left corner of the photo window. Make sure to click "Done"
Just to be sure close your browser and reopen to the workshop site. Proceed to your topic of mosaics and promptly try to load the photo. The site does have a timed response so if you keep your page open on this particular topic and try to load the picture say after 10 or 15 minutes it will give you an error message and will say that you need to refresh the page. So while the page is freshly opened try to load your photo. If you still get errors perhaps you may try it on another computer.
@Julieg9426,
To insert an image in a post:
You are then free to compose your message and the photo should be visible in the text editor. When you are ready to post your message, hit the Post button.
Hope that helps,
I've done those steps multiple times and still no image ...
Can I reply to the email and attach the image so you can post it for me?
Yes, feel free to email them to workshop@bunnings.com.au and we can put them up for you @Julieg9426.
Can you please tell me what browser you are using and what operating system version your Mac has?
Thanks,
@Julieg9426 thanks so much for persevering. Your mosaic looks incredible. You are a natural. Have you done quilting or painting before? You have a great eye for form and colour. Very impressive!
This is beautiful work. I suggest using a tile and grout sealer to preserve the finish and it will so seal the color of your grout. Looking forward to your future creations. I hope you have more luck posting next time.
What an absolutely phenomenal first mosaic @Julieg9426! I'm so excited for you! I trust there will be many more to come on this new adventure, and we are just delighted to be able to join you on it.
You'll need to start giving us some pointers because I would love to create something like that myself. Many thanks for sharing your efforts and please keep us updated.
Thanks for your lovely comment. No, haven’t done any painting (I’m still a stick figure girl) and while I used to sew, it was clothing, not crafty like quilting. I think I’ve found my new passion though with mosaics and have SO many ideas swirling around!!!! I’ll post them as I do them 🙂
Thanks Mitchell - don’t know if I’m up to teaching others yet but happy to share anything I pick up along the way with everyone 🙂
Thanks Red - an excellent tip and I’ll get some sealer today as I’d hate all my hard work to fade ... 🙂
