Hidden doorway using recycled timber

Recycling old timber into a Hidden Doorway adding that hint of mystery the room. A great conversation starter and even better to hide a untidy kids bedroom!

Steps

Step 1

The first step was to prep the wall for paint and remove the door handle and door trim. Next i paint the wall and door to in a matte black paint to ensure any gaps wouldn't be to noticeable. Then i pre stained multiple lengths of the recycled timber with the Feast Watson Black Japan https://www.bunnings.com.au/feast-watson-4l-black-japan-timber-floor-stain-and-varnish_p1520372 the color you choose here is totally up to you but the darker tones help with hiding the joins.

Step 2

45 degree cuts on the opening side of the door.45 degree cuts on the opening side of the door.Lining each layer up as you go.Lining each layer up as you go.

I started at the top to ensure and gap at the bottom could be covered with the skirting.

Butt joints are used across the wall.

Each piece of the recycled timber is brad nailed to the wall.

With a simple opposite 45 Degree angle cut on the side of the door that is opening inward as seen in the picture.

Ensuring there is enough gap not to foul.

I also used a level to match the door sections to the wall to ensure continuity.

Step 3

Continue adding the panels until the door is covered.

As you can see i couldn't wait for the stain to dry after i had ran out of the ones i prepared the day before. So i added them to the wall and had to paint them in situ. I would highly recommend being more patient then myself.IMG_7374.JPGIMG_7376.JPGIMG_9453.jpeg

And complete.
