These tiles (what I assume are terrazzo) are throughout the entry and stairway in my block of flats. As you can see, they are pretty dirty. What can I do to brighten them up? Thank you.
Hi @Edgar,
Terrazzo tiles are typically sealed to prevent dirt and grime from penetrating their surface, making them easier to clean. From your image, the tiles don’t appear deeply soiled, so a thorough clean with a quality floor cleaner should help brighten them up. If the sealer is stained or worn through to the tile, it would need to be stripped off and re-applied. Due to these being Terrazzo tiles, it would be best to enlist the services of a professional to do this work.
I also notice that the tiles are heavily chipped around the edges and could benefit from re-grouting. Using a white grout would not only refresh the overall look but could also help build up the chipped areas, improving their appearance. An epoxy-based grout might provide added durability if you're after a more permanent fix.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
