Hi,
I'm about to buy some budgies and a flight cage. Due to limited floor space in my unit I'd like to place the cage on a wall-mounted shelf. Can anyone give me some ideas on how I can do this (solid brick wall, internal)
Cage dimensions 78 L x 47 W x 46 H Link to cage https://petandgarden.com.au/products/extra-wide-exercise-bird-cage-ts-2473?_pos=1&_sid=daca0cc8f&_ss...
Cheers
Hi @Fi_99,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fabulous to have you with us.
As the bird cage is 470mm deep, you will need to support as much of the depth of the cage as possible.
I'd suggest using these Carinya 400 x 350mm Galvanised Heavy Duty Twisted Stay Brackets, mounted to the wall with Blue Wall Plugs and these 14G x 50mm Batten Screws. Make sure the bracket is oriented so the 400mm leg is the one protruding out from the wall.
As the bird cage is 780mm wide, you will need three brackets evenly spaced to support a panel such as this Specrite 1200 x 600 x 18mm Timber Multi Use Pine Panel. You can use our in-store cutting service to have it cut to 800 x 500mm, which would be a perfect size for your bird cage.
You can then use 8G x 20mm Button Head Stitching Screws to attach the pine panel to the brackets.
This will give you a good, strong shelf for your bird cage to sit on.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Jacob
Thanks Jacob, very helpful. Are there stay brackets or another option that is less industrial looking? The cage will be pretty light..
Hello @Fi_99
There are quite a number of angle brackets available at the store, I propose visiting your local store and going into the hardware aisle and see which style you prefer. There are even timber ones such as the Carinya 290 x 240mm Plywood Angle Bracket. Or perhaps the single cast Carinya 400 x 350mm Black Heavy Duty Cast Aluminium Angle Bracket.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Hi @Fi_99
You need to keep in mind that the main reason for the shelf is to stop the cage from dropping down the wall rather than totally supporting the cage. If you can find a shelf that is as wide as you can but then use a hook to hold the top of the cage back to the wall (possibly by a light chain and a caribiner (to facilitate it being taken down for cleaning) and possibly a screw stop to stop it sliding off the shelf. This way you could look at more aesthetically pleasing solutions such as a floating shelf.
