Re: how do I insulate under an old iron roof

G'day @Gnome0512

How deep are the studs holding the roof up?

You could look at putting in some Earthwool insulation. The higher the R rating, the deeper it is, so depending on what you're planning to put on the bottom of the boards, such as gyprock, fibro, timber or chicken wire with staples, it may need very secure anchors for the thicker insulation. I learnt from experience that the high R rated Earthwool means LOTS more screws and glue to hold the gyprock in place and stop it from popping the screws.

There's also stuff like Kingspan Insulation 1.35m x 22.25m AIR-CELL Retroshield but I think you need to take up the iron roof to install it under the iron.

Do you have any photo's of the area at all?

Re: How to add insulation to iron roof?

Hello @Gnome0512

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about insulating your roof.

In order to give our members a better idea of your roof configuration, would it be possible for you post a few photos of your roof? We'll then be able to assess how your roof is constructed; we'll then be able to make recommendations on how to insulate your roof.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric
