Re: Load bearing wall?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @HandyDIYer. It's amazing to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about load-bearing walls.

It’s not really possible to give you an accurate idea of whether this wall is load-bearing or not purely based on photos. Even a qualified structural engineer would be hesitant to make a definitive call without seeing the wall in person, as there are many factors that can’t be confirmed visually, such as what’s directly above the wall, how the ceiling joists or roof framing is supported, and whether there are hidden load paths within the structure. While the fact that the wall doesn’t run in line with the ceiling beams can sometimes suggest it’s non-structural, that’s not always the case. Internal walls can still carry loads from other parts of the roof structure, particularly in older or modified homes.

To be sure, you’ll need to have either a structural engineer or a registered builder inspect the wall in person. They’ll be able to check the roof space, load transfer points, and overall layout of your home to confirm whether it’s safe to remove and, if necessary, what structural reinforcement might be required. Although it’s an added expense, it’s well worth it for peace of mind and to ensure you don’t compromise the safety or integrity of your home.

Hi @HandyDIYer

As @MitchellMc its not possible to provide this advice in an online forum as there are many factors. There are a few options to gain this information.

1. Domestic building surveyor

2. Domestic building draftsperson

3. Domestic building engineer

4. "Registered" builder
