How to fix Rolltrak sliding door lock?

I bought this product today - https://www.bunnings.com.au/rolltrak-black-sliding-screen-door-lock_p4062465?srsltid=AfmBOoriQa-Wt2q...

I have installed as per the included instructions - the product seems faulty.

everything works until i open the sliding door. it can latch, it can lock, the snib lock works - however when i pull the lever to open the door - the lever stays in the pressed position even when i am not touching it - then when the door is slid closed it wont latch to the striker plate.

i have to manually force the lever back to the neutral position to get it to latch to the striker plate

any ideas of how to over come this or is it just a bad product

Re: roll track sliding door lock broken

Hello @dbean

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your sliding door lock.

I suspect that the housing plate is out of alignment and suggest loosening the screws to and see if this loosens up the door lever, it's possible that the levers axle is out of alignment and is causing the lever to bind along with the latch. Hence if you loosen up the screws and the latch begins to work normally, odds are the unit is out of alignment. Perhaps the mounting holes will need to be made just a bit bigger, or the two sides realigned to get it working properly.

However, if after several attempts at correcting the unit and you still get the same results, I suggest bringing back the unit for an exchange. Please remember to bring your docket with you when you return to the store. You can also check out our Door Lock Installation Service if you wish to have a professional install your sliding door lock.

Re: roll track sliding door lock broken

Hi @dbean

I've replaced many door locks with this one with never any issues. They can be a bit finicky if all the screws and fitting aren't exactly in place when tightening up. @EricL has made a good suggestion to first try loosening the screws off and trying again. The 2nd is to remove the lock and latch and test it operates uninstalled before taking it back. You could also check with the manufacturers help desk. This way you can be sure that simply replacing it wasn't the issue.

Re: roll track sliding door lock broken

Good Evening @dbean

I have spent 2 hrs trying to get a lock work again after removing it from the door (Where it was working already, I was just renoing the door) I wanted to pull my hair out and felt like telling the world in no uncertain terms that the door lock was busted.... Then I pulled the lcok apart once again and steppe dthrough the install as if I had never done it before. It worked. Im retelling the story as I suspect that @EricL and @Nailbag  probarlly have it right and loosening of the screws is a good way to check or removing it totally as @Nailbag has suggested and verifing it works once its removed.
